This year, we met “E,” a young girl whose story of growth deeply moved us. At home with her family, E spoke mostly in Spanish. She was quiet, shy, and nervous about going to school. Over the year, she gained fluency in English and even became the classroom’s designated “conflict resolver,” as her teacher explained. Thanks to her many positive experiences in preschool, E began her kindergarten year like a flower in full bloom.
Sometimes success is as clear as the nose on a child’s face. Or in “L”s case, her fingers, eyelashes, and earrings! L’s self-portrait evolved dramatically over her year in pre-k, as did her self-confidence. The picture below truly says it all.
